“Like home away from home!”
After reading all of the reviews online about ASI my girlfriend and I decided to book 5 nights in the Back Porch room. After the first night I realized I should have booked at least 2 more. As soon as we walked it I knew it was an excellent choice. Everything about the place from the awesome wood paintings to the outdoor showers were amazing! We loved how this place felt more like a home than an inn. The kitchen and back yard grill access is something we will be taking advantage of on our next visit.
I can not say enough good things about this place. The location is within walking distance to the beach and some really great restaurants. I loved this place so much I actually proposed to my girlfriend in our room rather than on the beach just to make the Atlantic Street Inn that much more special.
“Our second time here but not our last!”
This is our second stay at the Atlantic Street Inn. We are as pleased as we were last year. This inn is the perfect alternative to a hotel and much more comfortable. The rooms are spotless clean and the house is welcoming.
“Fantastic!”
This is definitely the place to stay in KDH. It's walking distance to everything (if only the town would invest in sidewalks that didn't end mid-block, but that's not the Inn's fault), and lovely. George is a really nice guy, too. And it's more reasonably priced than anything else we looked at!
“Excellent choice in the Outer Banks; would return here!”
Stayed here in the Outer Banks for a 3-day weekend (for the first time in 20yrs!). Wife and I in the Master, son's family in the front room below. Excellent value. Agree completely with all of the previous reviews, so I'll just add extra info. Note that some rooms are roomy (such as the Master), but others are indeed a little tight. However, since you can be in the common kitchen, dining room, or front (enclosed) porch as well as out in the backyard (with grill, table and chairs, enclosed outdoor showers), even staying in the smaller rooms should be just fine. I think every room perhaps has a small frig, microwave, and bathroom/shower. Every room has A/C, and maybe all have ceiling fans - a very nice touch. The property is on the east side of Hwy 12, just over one block, so you don't feel the hustle and bustle (sometimes heavy traffic) along there. George does an incredible job with this property and could get away with raising his prices - but we hope he doesn't. We liked the Blackbeard painting, too! The location is central in Kitty Hawk/Kill Devil Hills/Nags Head. P.S. Don't rent the Master. We want it to be available for when we come back.
“Cool Inn close to the beach”
We enjoyed very much our stay in the Crew quarters. The main bedroom is rather tiny, but you have an extra small bedroom to use for stocking or other purposes and a quiet breakfast corner.
The extra advantage of the Atlantic Street Inn is that you may use the well equiped kitchen and so we did.
The Inn is nice base to explore the Atlantic ocean, the light houses, the sand dunes and the museum of the brothers Wright who made their first airplane flights right from there.
The Food Dudes Kitchen a few yards from the Inn is a real cool place for eating tacos and drinking a beer.
“Best Place To Stay In Kill Devil Hills By Far”
George provided excellent hospitality and could not have been more accommodating. The inn is charming, quaint, and immaculate in both cleanliness and maintenance, not to mention it's excellent location.
We were very comfortable here, and slept like babies. We chose to stay in the Back Porch room, and It was an ideal setup for us. The Back Porch had modern amenities without taking away from the charm of the inn. There are no pics of the bathrooms on his site, but they are large enough and have modern walk-in showers. They also have ample storage for your toiletries. There is also an extra full bathroom located adjacent to the kitchen.
A couple things you should know before staying here: Don't expect breakfast. There is, however, cereal, condiments and such in the kitchen area. There are no irons or hair dryers, so bring your own. There is a microwave, fridge and coffee maker. They have area guides, but you may want to pick up an extra Visitor's Guide just for coupons. George is also great about recommending places to eat and such. The room was a little smaller it appeared, and the bed's a little squeaky for light sleepers like us, but still nice.
As far as location, 158 runs parallel with the Beach road, and this inn is in the middle (not noisy at all). Locations of surrounding businesses are identified by mile posts. ASI is located at MP 9 (Mile Post 9). Businesses at lower MP numbers are north, and higher MP numbers are south. This should give you a better idea of where things are at in reference to the inn. The beach is just the other side of the beach road, about a block from the inn and very easy walking distance. Places located on 158 are generally commercial businesses or tourist traps, whereas places on the Beach road are locally owned.
George has a guest book, and everyone left glowing reviews. The other folks staying in the inn at the same time we were also spoke of their intentions to return. Hope you all enjoy staying here as much as we did!
